Thank you for registering for the John Rosen Memorial 5K and 1 Mile Fun Walk. I think of my brother John daily. John and I were very close and I was devastated when he passed away. This event is a good way for me to spend some positive energy to help us remember and honor the life of John. I invite you to check out the "About John" section on our website to learn more about John and his life. My entire family thanks you for your support.

Saturday, October 22nd
7:30 AM Race Day Registration/Packet Pickup - Race Start/Finish Line on Locust Street
8:30 AM Registration Closes
8:45 AM Pre-Race Announcements/Moment of Silence - Start/Finish line on Locust Street
8:55 AM National Anthem
9:00 AM 5K Run Begins
9:05 1 Mile Fun Walk Begins
10:10 Course Closes
10:15 Awards Ceremony - Race Star/Finish Line on Locust Street

Parking:

Parking at the Elementary School is first come, first served and is shared by other events in the community. Please try to carpool when possible and leave plenty of time to find alternative parking. There is street parking nearby as well as parking across 123 at the Caboose and the Vienna Train Station right next to the bike trail. For those of you coming in from out of town or who are not familiar with the area, I suggest you give yourself ample time. There is a Whole Foods Market about a quarter mile from the race venue where you can get snacks if you find yourself arriving very early. 

Walkers

Walkers will not get a race number and will not be timed. Also, the Vienna Police would like us to keep the walkers on the sidewalk so please stay on the sidewalk during the 1 mile walk. I encourage you to get to know a stranger while you walk. 

Runners

Be sure to pick up your race number at packet pickup and wear it during the race. The race number has a timing chip in it that will record your start and finish time. Since this is a relatively small race, many of you will have the opportunity to place in your age group. If you don't have your race number on during the run, you will not get on official time. Just imagine John congratulating you at the end of the race as he would have surely done. I will be joining everyone for the run. 

Awards

Stick around for the awards ceremony. We hope to have some light snacks too. 

T-Shirts

For those of you who registered after the October 2 T-shirt deadline, we can not guarantee your desired t-shirt size. It looks like we will have enough t-shirts for all participants. However, you may not get the size you asked for when you signed up if you signed up after October 2nd. If anyone wants to exchange for a different size, please come see me after the race. If you prefer not to run in your shirt, you don't have to. That is a personal preference. Some people like to run or walk in the event t-shirt, some people like to run in their favorite gear and wear the t-shirt later. It's up to you. 

Weather

I have been watching the weather forecast for Saturday. The forecast has changed from 80 percent chance of showers to 60 to 40 to 0. Now it has gone back up to 40 percent. We really don't know for sure what the weather will bring. Please be prepared. Dress in layers. Wear a hat perhaps. For walkers, volunteers, and spectators, bring an umbrella. There is also a forecast of wind. Rain or shine, toe the line. Unless there is dangerous lightning or a monsoon, we will plan to have the event.

Thank you all so much for registering for the John Rosen Memorial 5K and 1 Mile Fun walk. Whether you are joining us to run or walk or participating in the Virtual 5K, we thank you for your support and look forward to putting on a quality event for you.  Everything is falling into place for race day. When we get closer to the race date, I will send out another email with any important updates. Parking will probably be at a premium due to construction at the nearby Vienna Community Center. I will provide parking recommendations at a later date. We do have permission to park at the Vienna Elementary School which is right at the race start/finish.  Please spread the word about our event. Online registration will close October 16th but we will be taking cash-only registrations at packet pickup on Friday, October 21st and on race morning at the race site. Thanks! - Donating to the Spina Bifida Assocation

Thanks so much to everyone who helped us make this event possible. To all the private donors and small businesses who helped finance this event, to the participants, and to the volunteers, we thank you very much. John would have been so proud to see all of you coming together. I will be announcing the exact amount of money we raised to donate to the Spina Bifida Association over the couple of days. John Rosen Memorial 5k - Follow Up

Thank you all for joining us last month for the John Rosen Memorial 5K and 1 Mile Fun Walk. We are so pleased that you could come out and support our family. For those of you who could not make it, we appreciate your support too. We were able to donate $2000 to the Spina Bifida Association in John's name. John would have been proud of all of you. We had some sizing issues with t-shirts. Hopefully everyone got one that fit but I know that some of you might not have. I apologize for that. If you take a look at the t-shirt, you can see the silhouette of John running. Our designer did such a nice job of recreating that action shot from a picture my Dad took of John running on the track. Notice how both of John's feet and one crutch are in the air. He was really getting it.  I hope that this event continues to inspire you and I ask that you sign up for another local race.
